Dr Richard Berry joined Intersect as the eResearch Analyst at the University of Newcastle in October 2015. A former Neuroscientist and Defence civilian, he also holds postgraduate qualifications in IT and works closely with the UON Research Services and IT teams to help integrate computing into everyday research practice.

He has been involved with a very diverse range of activities, including:

  • Assisting Professor Clare Collins and Dr Megan Rollo with deployment and integration testing of the Australian Eating Survey.

  • Developing and delivering seminars on eResearch services available to UON researchers.

  • Coordinating and assisting the delivery of training to over 130 researchers and HDR students.

  • Assisting with the development of “Cr8it”, an application to help researchers easily and simply pick, package and publish data directly from OwnCloud.

Richard is currently focussed on the development of a comprehensive online resource to provide on-demand information about the computing services, facilities and tools available to researchers at UON. As part of Intersect’s training team, he is also currently exploring development of a new course about big data.

Richard especially enjoys learning about the huge range of research being undertaken at the University, and getting out of the office to take in the natural beauty of the nearby bushland. He can often be seen walking the Don Morris track at lunchtime, except after rain when the mosquitoes become unbearable.

eRA on-campus integration at Newcastle is a great example of how Intersect complements and supports local services to increase research productivity. Contact your friendly local eResearch Analyst for more information about how Intersect can help your organisation.
