Associate Professor Daniel Catchpoole and his team, including Intersect Australia, were awarded the 2016 Cancer Institute NSW Premier’s Awards for Outstanding Cancer Research (Big Data, Big Impact Grant – Stage 2) for ‘Deep Learning of Complex Genomics Data for Effective Clinical Decisions’.

This Kids Research Institute-based team continues research into personalised case management in childhood cancer and includes researchers from across Intersect’s membership: A/Prof Paul Kennedy (University of Technology, Sydney); Prof Simeon Simoff and Dr Quang Vinh Nguyen (Western Sydney University); Dr Nikola Bowden, the University of Newcastle) and our own Dr. Jeff Christiansen (Intersect eResearch Analyst). The group received funding to continue their project “Deep Learning of Complex Genomics Data for Effective Clinical Decisions”, which follows on from investigations the team has made over the past year.

Intersect is privileged to offer continued support and participation by contributing our expertise in health data storage, retrieval and compute.
